Electric Vehicle Home Charger installations for Ford customers

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Electric Vehicle?

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are either partially or powered by electricity. There are two main types; Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). PHEVs offer a mixture of battery and petrol (or diesel) power. BEVs are completely powered by electricity and not only have lower running costs (less parts for maintenance) but are environmentally friendly as they are fossil fuel free.

How do I know if my EV is compatible with the EVBox Elvi?

Thanks to its modular build, the EVBox Elvi was designed to evolve and adapt to suit all electric cars for years to come.

How do I know if the EVBox Elvi will be compatible with my home?

It should be however we’ll be able to confirm this once we’ve completed a full assessment of your home from the answers you’ve submitted online and from our follow up conversation with you. If, for some reason, your home is suitable for a charger but the EVBox Elvi is just not compatible then we will offer you an alternative model.

How long will it take to charge my EV at home?

This will depend on the size of your EV’s battery and whether you’re starting the charge on completely empty or half full. Typically, you can divide the battery size by the kWh a car to get an approximate charging time. So, for example, for a car battery with a 30-kWh battery charging from empty on a 7.3kWh charger will take approximately 9 hours.

How much will it cost to charge my EV at home?

The capacity of an electric car’s battery is expressed in kilowatt hours (kWh), which is a measure of the energy storage available in the battery cells. To calculate how much, it costs to charge 100% of your car’s battery, simply multiply your car’s battery capacity (in kWh) x your home electricity supply cost per kWh. For a car battery with 30kWh capacity, the cost to charge from empty to 100% full is: 100% x 30kWh battery capacity x 16c/kWh electricity cost = €4.80.

Is my home suitable for an EV home charger?

Our installation team will be able to confirm this. After you’ve confirmed a call-back through the online booking, a member of the team will call you to complete a short assessment of your home.

What is the home assessment or survey and what’s involved?

Once we’ve received your online booking, we’ll provisionally match you with an engineer in your area. To ensure your installation is as straightforward as possible, a member of the team will then call you to carry out a short survey over the phone so we can fully assess what’s required to carry out the job.

The survey will usually involve the following questions:

  • What year was your house built?
  • What is the address for the installation including Eircode?
  • What is the brand, model and year of your car?
  • Have the outer walls of your hose been insulated?
  • Do you have an electric shower installed in your home?
  • Have you a heat exchange pump system installed in your home?
  • Are you grant approved by SEAI and will you require grant certification?
  • How far is your internal fuse board from where you want your charger installed?
  • Can you include a photograph of your fuse-board and of the preferred location position of the charger?

Will a site survey be required?

Generally, an assessment over the phone should be enough. However, in some instances, a home visit may be needed before a quote can be given. Our installation team will advise if they think a visit is necessary and why.
